About Joe Mitchell
I came to Las Vegas from Kalamazoo, Michigan in 2002 with an opportunity to work with Brown & Brown Insurance of Nevada. When I arrived, I visited the Las Vegas Chambers of Commerce and experienced the unique relationships and ease of access that local businesses have with government officials. It inspired me to get involved in public service.
For more than four years, I have served as special assistant to the Mayor and City Council working closely with community leaders, stakeholders, businessmen and women, spiritual leaders, and constituents living in Ward 5. Each day, my job has been meaningful and full of important tasks that showed results in people’s lives. This type of work is a God-inspired calling for me. It’s not about power or prestige. It is about changing lives and helping others.
One thing that sets me a part, is that I am skillful at city planning. I went through the City’s planning academy and Urban Land Institute professional development trainings. That knowledge led me to create the HUNDRED PLAN, a master-planned community concept for the Historic Westside. This will be an amazing place to live and a wonderful new part of the City of Las Vegas. This is one example of my ingenuity and hard work to serve the people in this community.
My priorities as Councilman for Ward 5 are to ensure safety in the community, build beautiful neighborhoods, increase job opportunities and economic investments, and preserve the character and history of this Ward.
On a personal note, I am a man of faith. I believe in character, integrity and service. I am a different kind of leader Ward 5 hasn’t seen before. I am honest and a loving man who has exceptional skills and abilities to serve this community. I love this community and I believe in hard work. I am truthful and I do what’s right. I want to continue the good work I’ve started. I am asking for your vote on March 27.
I am married to my best friend and wonderful wife, Jennifer. We are expecting our first baby in May. The journey I’ve had wouldn’t have been as enjoyable without her. I am fortunate to have a loving family. They are my greatest supporters.
